Barcelona will be taking on A.S. Roma in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League tournament. Barcelona took care of business in the Round of 16 by eliminating Chelsea 4-1 on aggregates. They are looking to do the same against Roma.
Barcelona is one of the favorites to win it all and they’re looking to be crowned the UEFA champions for the first time since 2015. Their nemesis, Real Madrid, has won the Champions League twice in a row. Barcelona would love to have the opportunity to end Real Madrid’s reign if they had the chance.
Barcelona’s key to advancing to the semifinals is easy. They just need to do exactly what they did in the Round of 16. In other words, they just need to simply outplay Roma. In order for them to do that, Barcelona needs to score some goals and play aggressive defense and not allow them to have any chances to score. Barcelona can count on playmaker Lionel Messi to score some goals, but he can’t do it all on his own. Basically, Barcelona will have to work as a team in order to get the job done. They’ve got plenty of talent, so there’s no excuse for the team to not be able to work as a unit.
In Barcelona’s case, finishing a game in a tie is unacceptable. They’ll want to win both games to easily advance. And they’re certainly more than capable of doing so. Of course, they don’t want to underestimate their opponent it could end up being a crucial mistake. In Roma’s case, if they managed to make it to the quarterfinals, there’s no doubt they can possibly give Barcelona a run for their money.
The first meeting is April 4th, and it’s taking place in Barcelona. Messi and company ought to take full advantage of their home-field advantage.
