The free agency period in the NFL is winding down, but there are some talented guys still on the market. Here are five of the best wide receivers available in free agency with possible destinations for them and what they would bring to their new teams.
Eric Decker has played in the league for eight years between the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans. Last season, Decker had 54 receptions for 563 yards and a touchdown with the Titans. For his career, he has had 439 receptions, 5,816 receiving yards, and 53 touchdowns. Decker is a great route runner and has the ability to make big plays. He would be a great fit for the Green Bay Packers as they lost play maker Jordy Nelson to the Raiders.
Jordan Matthews is a speedy receiver with the ability to spread the field against opposing defenses. Last season, for Buffalo, Matthews had 25 receptions for 282 yards and a touchdown. For his career, Matthews has had 250 receptions, 2,955 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns. One big play he made last season was a 47-yard reception against the Jets to keep the drive moving on September 10, 2017. The Indianapolis Colts would be a great landing spot for the speedy receiver.
Jeremy Maclin is an eight-year veteran who has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and, most recently, the Baltimore Ravens. In 2017, Maclin hauled in 40 receptions for 440 yards and found the end zone three times during a injury prone season. Maclin has the ability to come up with big plays as last year he had a 46-yard touchdown in week one against the Bengals. A landing spot for Maclin, in 2018, would be the Atlanta Falcons. Maclin will bring speed to the Falcons that they lost with Taylor Gabriel‘s move to sign with Chicago.
Brice Butler has been with the Dallas Cowboys for the last two years accumulating 31 receptions and six touchdowns. However, he didn’t get much playing time. For his career, he has 73 receptions, 1,177 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns in limited work. Butler is a receiver with the ability to stretch the field against defenses and also use his 6’3 220-pound body to make plays in the red zone. A great place for him to go for a career rebuild would be the Arizona Cardinals. He would finally get a chance to make an impact on a team. The Cardinals have lost Jaron Brown to the Seahawks and John Brown to the Ravens this offseason.
Dontrelle Inman is the last receiver to take a look at. Inman, last season, had 25 receptions, 343 receiving yards, and a touchdown for the Chicago Bears. For his career, Inman has hauled in 130 receptions for 1,797 yards and eight touchdowns. Inman brings the ability to be a good route runner, excelling in curl and comeback routes. He has average speed with the ability to cause trouble for defensive secondaries. The Buffalo Bills would be an ideal landing spot for Inman. Inman would be able to slide right into the starting lineup for Buffalo as they are dealing with off-the-field woes Zay Jones.
All five of these receivers bring something different to the field. Whether it is adequate route running ability, speed, or a veteran presence they can find ways to help a team. The aforementioned teams could use their services as each player can still make plays.
