Real Madrid has taken game one against Juventus in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League tournament. Real Madrid now stands with a huge advantage, thanks to a hard-fought 3-0 victory.
Juventus came in looking to avenge their loss in the finals last year in the Champions League tournament, however, so far it’s been the complete opposite. Perhaps Real Madrid has already embarrassed them worse than last year when they won 4-1 on aggregates, thus winning their second consecutive Champions League title.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, thus becoming the first footballer in history to score a goal in ten consecutive Champions League games. Ronaldo’s second goal gave him his 119th Champions League goal. Marcelo provided Real Madrid with insurance by scoring the third goal to seal the deal.
Real Madrid was in control the entire game and it started when Ronaldo scored in the third minute of the game. Juventus had several chances to get on the board, however, they would be thwarted at every turn. Madrid was focused and ready for anything as they’re looking to win their third straight Champions League title for the second time in club history, as well as their fourth title in five years. The most important thing is that they played as a team.
Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane says this win is special for the entire team. “I think we produced the sort of performance we all wanted,” he said in a postgame interview. “We did some fantastic things out there.”
Game two will be April 11th in Madrid. With Real Madrid leading 3-0 on aggregate, the odds are certainly in their favor. Their strategy to advancing to the semifinals is to exactly do what they did in the first game. They need to take advantage of every opportunity and not give Juventus any opportunities. Real Madrid needs to score goals and play solid defense.
