MLB: Who Could Make Their First All-Star Game?

The 2018 Major League baseball season has been exciting this year. There have been a few breakout stars like any other year. Here are eight players that could make their first MLB All-Star Game appearance this season.

Atlanta Braves rookie shortstop Ozzie Albies is in line for his first All-Star game appearance this season. He leads the voting for National League second basemen with 915,736 votes. This season Albies is batting .249 with 16 home runs while driving in 42 RBI. His production has put the Braves in a position to make the playoffs.

Next up is Eugenio Suarez. This season the Cincinnati Reds player has a .295 batting average, 15 home runs, 54 RBI, and 62 hits. He has been one of the lone bright spots for the Reds. One of Suarez’s best games this season came on April 7 against the Pittsburgh Pirates when he had a five RBI game.

St. Louis Cardinals first basemen Jose Martinez is the third player that could be on his way to the mid-season classic. For the season, Martinez has a .314 average, 10 home runs, and 44 RBI. He also has 77 hits, including 27 of them for extra bases. Martinez leads the Cardinals this year in three offensive categories: batting average, RBI’s, and slugging percentage.

Nick Markakis, the Atlanta Braves outfielder, currently leads all National League outfielders in votes with 1,173,653. For the season, Markakis is hitting .323 with eight home runs and 44 RBI. He ranks third with 93 hits, which is good enough for the most in the National League.

Batting .292 this season for a hot-hitting bunch, Andrew Benintendi could be on his way to his first mid-season classic. The Boston Red Sox outfielder has hit 12 homers and driven in 47 of his mates. He has 35 extra base hits this season to go along with a .528 slugging percentage. Benintendi is also having a good year defensively with a fielding percentage of .974.

Minnesota Twins player Eddie Rosario has been stellar and could see his name on the AL’s All-Star roster. Rosario is batting .320 to go along with 16 long balls, 46 RBI, and has piled up 89 hits. He has a total of five outfielder assists this season for the Twins. His team has struggled up to now, but Rosario continues to excel.

The New York Yankees offense has been one of the best in the majors this season. Rookie phenom Gleyber Torres has been a key part intheir offense, as he’s hitting .287 with 14 homers, and has 35 RBI. He also has a slugging percentage of .556 and an OPS of .900. With this kind of a start, it could give the youngster his first All-Star game appearance. 

The final player that could see his dream come true is Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger. Haniger is holding a .264 average, with 16 home runs, and 54 RBI. He also has 71 hits to go along with a .498 slugging percentage.

All eight of these players are deserving of making to this year’s mid-season classic. It’s great to see new faces having a chance to make a name for themselves. We will have to wait and see who ends up making it to this year’s big game.
