WWE: The Fastlane to Mania

There was one last Pay-Per-View that needed to take place before WrestleMania, WWE Fastlane.

Swerves took place. Confusion occurred. Match changes.

The road to WrestleMania is now a month away and the matches are starting to form. With that being said, here are the takeaways from WWE Fastlane.

1. The Women’s card for Mania looks as expected

Three matches took place at Fastlane that featured the women superstar. Two of them were for titles and the another one was a place in the main event of WrestleMania.

First up was the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship match between Mandy Rose, the challenger against Asuka, the champion. Could this be Mandy Rose’s moment?

In the WWE Universe eyes, no, but you never know with Vince McMahon and WrestleMania. Anyways, it would not be all roses for Rose as her best friend Sonya Deville got involved one too many times. It led to a slip and fall by Rose and the champ took advantage to retain her title. The more important storyline though. are there cracks forming between the best friends of Deville and Rose after the match?

Next up for the women was the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Boss N’ Hug Connection(Sasha Banks and Bayley) had their first title defends against The Samoan Slaughterhouse(Nia Jax and Tamina).

Boss N’ Hug won to retain but that’s not where things got interesting and confusing. After the match Tamina and Jax viciously attack the champs and WWE Hall of Framer. Tamina got in the face of announcer Beth Phoenix for the first time probably time since 2012, Tamina attacked. Phoenix’s best friend, Natalya came to help but they are not called the Samoan Slaughterhouse for no reason. Now, the question becomes with Mania on the horizon, is the Hall of Framer, Phoenix coming to back the ring?

It was the match that would impact the main event for WrestleMania. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch with a Lynch win putting her in the main event for a triple-threat match for Mania. The final part that needed to happen for the WrestleMania Main Event, happened. Here is where more confusion takes place because yes Becky won the match but by disqualification.

Ronda Rousey came into the ring, hit drops, Lynch, causing a DQ on Flair. Triple-Threat Match for the Raw Women’s Championship, officially set.

2. A Heel Turn Expected but Unexpected

The SD Live Tag Team Titles opened the show. The Usos defending against the team they took the titles from in Shane McMahon and Cleveland’s own, The Miz. It was the Elimination Chamber rematch at Fastlane. Miz’s dad was in attendance along thousands of Miz’s fans inside the Q Arena.

The match at the Chamber was a good one so what do these two teams have for an encore? Another good showing is what.

Shane McMahon intercepted Jey Usos’s splash with a Coast to Coast leap that the people out of their seat. Miz going up top at dad’s request for a frog splash that was reversed by Jey into a round-up victory for The Usos. The SD Live Tag Team Division is still on lockdown inside The Usos Penitentiary.

The trifecta has taken place. The big win at the Royal Rumble. The shocking lost at Elimination Chamber. Now the heartbreaking hometown lost. It’s time for a heel turn. So who is turning heel?

Most thought it would be The Miz. Fighting for dad’s approval your whole life. Dad loves Shane McMahon. Y’all team together and win the Tag Titles. Back-to-back lost and you’re in your hometown. All signs point to The Miz except one. He is not a McMahon, that would be Shane McMahon. Shane beat down The Miz in front of his dad in Miz’s hometown. Shane never went as far as to put his hands on The Miz’s dad. The Miz is a turn babyface going to Mania and Shane O’Mac is the heel. That’s unexpected.

3. KofiMania Lives Barely

The WWE Championship was set to be defended at Fastlane between Daniel Bryan, the champ and Kofi Kingston, the challenger. That was until the contract signing two weeks before the PPV.

Mr. McMahon applauded Kofi for all of his hard work in 11 years with WWE but felt Kingston isn’t main event material. Mr. McMahon replaced Kofi Kinston with the returning Kevin Owens who signed the contract for Fastlane.

At Fastlane, Kofi was informed that the “McMahons” wanted to talk to him about the WWE Championship during the kickoff show. An hour ago later, Kofi is still on the McMahons backstage. The other two members of New Day, coming off their tag team victory, Big E and Xavier Woods, walk into the McMahons office along with Kinston and defend Kofi on being involved in the WWE Title match.

After Mr. McMahon heard their plea, decided that Kofi would added making it a triple-threat WWE Championship match. But swerve was in on everybody, as Kofi Kinston is heading to the ring to outstanding cheers from the crowd. Kofi Kingston is finally getting his opportunity.

NOT!

Mr. McMahon put Kofi in a two-on-one handicap match against The Bar as both members of The Bar would be legal at all times. The Bar destroyed Kofi to the chant of “This Is Boring”, from the WWE Universe.

Furthermore, Daniel Bryan would retain the WWE Championship in a triple-threat match anyway. Instead of, Daniel, Kevin, and Kofi; it was Daniel, Kevin, and MUSTAFA ALI? Yeah, the man who Kofi replaced for the Chamber match last month, Mustafa Ali.

Ali was injured at the hands of Erik Rowan the week before the Elimination Chamber PPV. Kofi Kingston stepped in and has shown out ever since until Mr. McMahon came along. Where does that leave Kofi Kingston as WrestleMania is approaching?

4. One Last Ride of Justice

The main event brought an one last time match for a trio of brothers. The Shield(Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns) took one last joy ride together before everyone goes there separate ways. Seth Rollins has a date with The Beast, Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at Mania. Dean Ambrose has not resign with WWE and his current contract ends after Mania. Roman Reigns is just a couple of weeks back from his fight with Leukemia.

The opposing team was consist of Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre. The power of balance was in question in this match. Coming out to the Shield theme music and entrance through the crowd, The Shield was in Cleveland. For one last time, it was a chaotic Shield as expected.

Fighting all over ringside and in the crowd and both these teams laid all on the line. Rollins and Ambrose fighting McIntyre and Lashley by the Kickoff set. Rollins leaping from a rail on a higher level and crashing into McIntyre and Lashley. McIntyre and company trying to mock The Shield’s triple bomb only to have Ambrose interfere and save Reigns.

Before you knew it, the pack mentality of The Shield was in full effect. The Hounds of Justice took over with a Curb Stomp from Rollins to Lashley on the announce table. A Shield Bomb for Drew McIntyre through the Spanish announce table. Finally a Shield Bomb to Baron Cobrbin for the one, two ,three. The Shield Victorious one last time.

WWE Fastlane was confusing and teasing, but now it’s all road to WrestleMania in New York/New Jersey. Only two confirmed matches for Mania with a month to go. Rollins versus Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title. Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Title. Who will face Asuka for the SD Live Women’s Title? Who is next in line for the Women’s Tag Team Titles?

Triple H and Batista go face-to-face on Raw, can this make it to Mania? AJ Styles and Randy Orton have finally stop talking and start fighting. Do we see this matchup at Mania? A lot questions unsolved with a month to go. But in WrestleMania season, everything is on the table for discussion. Enjoy the final leg on the road to WrestleMania. This is where the Mania card gets official.

Next stop: MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey for WrestleMania.
