In Augusta, Georgia there is one of the most famous courses in the United States, Augusta National. A committee selects from a group of players that are considered the best. These golfers consist of last years top 12 finishers in the Masters, PGA tournament winners, gold medalists among others. The Masters tees off April 11 pending delay and weather. The champion will get a green jacket on April 14.
Going with Vegas
According to Vegas, the odds are in the favor of Rory McIlroy. His odds are 7-1, not a shock to many. Rory is playing some of his best golf this year and seems to finally have found his stroke. He has a solid all around game. Rory has for the past four years has been in the Top 10 at the masters. His best finish being fourth in that time frame.
Next is the player with the long ball, Dustin Johnson. His length and ability to finesse his way around the green has allowed him to play well as of late. Along those same lines, one can see why Brooks Koepka has worse odds, but has the same skill as DJ. When he is striking the ball well, he finds the green and is aggressive.
Who will everyone will be watching?
Golf is one of the most difficult games to bet on. Any given day anyone can get hot or can lose focus in any tournament. The most unlikely to win is Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed. With odds of 45-1 and 40-1.
The reason they are so low is due to how recently they have won the Masters. The champion of last year for Reed and the year before for Garcia. All eyes will likely be on some familiar faces. These players always seem to have a shot, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Surprising, Mickelson odds to win are 40-1 while Woods is 14-1. Woods has been playing better, but both have won before and would love to repeat.
My Picks and Dark horses
Jason Day always seems to play well. If he is healthy, he has one of the games that is best suited for the course. Close behind and the one that people can not help but look at is Rickie Fowler. His bright attire and flair for the game are unmatched. He has been playing well recently and with his close finish in past years. He is a player chomping at the bit. The dark horse is Hideki Matsuyama. Another golfer that has been playing well, finishes well and has probably the longest odds of the field at 33-1. The newbies that likely have the best shot are Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
What it really comes down to, is who has the grit. All these players are the top in the field and will have great chances at putting on the green jacket. The player that can handle the elements, if they come, and the course. This individual will be among some of the greatest golfers in the world. This individual will have to play smart, know the course and be able to persevere through.
Augusta is a beautiful place to watch golf. Golf is a beautiful game when a player but if can relax and play their game. The course and all the history is something that often these golfers forget. Or maybe, it is at the forefront and gives them the nerves that have caused epic breakdowns. All the professionalsIn any case, Welcome to the Masters.
