Manchester United is advancing to the Round of 16 of the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League. The club is facing an Austrian club by the name of Linzer ASK. In addition, Manchester United is on a mission to bring a major championship home to Old Trafford. Furthermore, despite the stressful and difficult season, the club is fighting hard to make the most of it. In other words, they’re refusing to give up without a fight.
In Premier League play, Manchester United is currently fighting with their arch-rivals, Chelsea for the fourth-place spot. Despite the struggles, the Red Devils have a chance to finish at least third in the Premier League. However, in order to have a chance to finish in third, they’ll have to win out the rest of their Premier League games and hope that both Chelsea and Leicester City come up short in their remaining Premier League games.
Furthermore, if Manchester United manages to win the Europa League title, they’ll automatically qualify for the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League tournament. However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer emphasized that Manchester United can’t rely on the Europa League tournament as the only way to qualify for next season’s Champions League. At any rate, the Red Devils have to continue to win. At this point, draws and losses are unacceptable.
Can Manchester United Get Past Linzer ASK?
The Red Devils are more than perfectly capable of advancing to the quarterfinals. However, it’s not going to be easy. Truth is, in Manchester United’s case, nothing seems easy nowadays. In other words, every game is a challenge, whether it’s Premier League play, an exhibition, Europa League, etc. Furthermore, playing against a smaller and weaker club can be quite difficult for the Red Devils based on past results.
Manchester United is second in the tournament in passes completed(4,518) and an 89 pass completion percentage which is a tie for first. In Linzer ASK’s case, they’re fourth in the tournament in shot attempts-on-target(44) with an average ball possession of 47 percent. In addition, Linzer ASK’s 134 total shot attempts are the most in the league. Furthermore, the Red Devils’ 16 goals in the tournament is a tie for second-most while Linzer AKS’s 14 goals are a tie for fourth-most. It’s been difficult without Marcus Rashford available and Anthony Martial’s health is a cause for concern. The Red Devils are going to have to play their hearts out with whoever is in the lineup.
Overall, it seems both clubs are worthy of upsetting each other. In the Red Devils’ case, they can’t allow Linzer ASK to beat them. In addition, Manchester United must not underestimate their opponent. Based on past results, Manchester United knows that taking their opponent lightly leads to a heartbreaking loss.
The first leg takes place on March 12th. The Red Devils will be on the road. They’re looking to win both games in comfortable fashion so they can move on to the quarterfinals with confidence and motivation. In addition, they have the opportunity once again of taking advantage of the away goals rule coming into the second leg which takes place at Old Trafford. Manchester United must win at all costs.
