The United States Women’s National Soccer Team is coming a brilliant 2019. Winning their second consecutive World Cup title(fourth overall) is just one of many accomplishments in the team’s history. Team USA’s success only inspires them to continue. In other words, the more they win, the better they want to be.
The team is preparing to travel to Tokyo to compete in the 2020 Olympic games. They’re looking to avenge their heartbreaking exit from the Olympics four years ago, and win the Olympic gold for the fifth time. Before the Olympics, the team is competing in their annual SheBelieves Cup invitational tournament. This year, they take on England, Japan, and Spain. Following that, they play two exhibition games against Brazil and Australia. A very competitive pre-Olympic warm-up campaign will do well for the team, especially if they can go undefeated.
Are They In For A Great 2020?
So far 2020 has been a great year for Team USA. Finishing their Olympic qualifying undefeated and without conceding any goals speaks for itself. However, Team USA’s goal is to bring home another Gold medal. So, in the USWNT’s case, 2020 can be a great year if they do win the gold at the 2020 Olympics.
It’s all about adding more to what’s already quite a long list of accolades over the years. In addition, it’s about staying on top of the mountain and keeping the winning and successful tradition alive. Long story short, it’s all about winning.
Can They Win The Gold This Year?
Team USA is perfectly capable of winning it all at this year’s Olympics. The same thing was said four years ago, however, the USA didn’t make it past the quarterfinals, losing to Sweden via penalties. This year, team USA is looking to right that wrong. They’ll need to play under the same mentality from last year in the World Cup. Aside from a winning mentality, they need to build and utilize a strong and unique team chemistry.
Most importantly, they cannot take any opponent lightly. Not taking their opponent seriously is what led to their exit from the tournament four years ago with no medal. In Team USA’s case, fate cannot be allowed to repeat itself and it’s up to them to make sure it doesn’t. The one thing for Team USA to keep in mind is that there’s no such thing as an easy game. That’s something they know very well.
Tonight, Team USA takes on England in their first game of the 2020 SheBelieves Cup. It’s a rematch of their semifinal clash from last year’s World Cup. England are the defending SheBelieves Cup Champions and they’re hungry for revenge. For Team USA, this is a challenge that they need. Team USA is and always should be hungry for a challenge.
